Courtney Brown, CRNA, MSN Interim Associate Director
Courtney Brown has over 18 years’ experience as a nurse, including that as a CCRN in the coronary care unit prior to entering the field of nurse anesthesia. Courtney’s anesthesia education was at our own program, where she distinguished herself by receiving the Dean’s recognition award for her academic and professional accomplishment, and the Chal Maree award of excellence.
As an alumna of our program, Courtney is well-versed in the clinical and didactic program. She is interested in educational development, both within and outside of the typical realm of nurse anesthesia education. To that end, she has taken on projects such as developing and teaching a portion of the CNOR review course offered at the Medical Center and publishing a chapter in the ASPAN Core Curriculum. Committed to her own educational development, Courtney is also a third year Ph.D. student, conducting research in postoperative delirium. She has lectured on Ketamine and the pathogenesis of pain at the national meeting of the AANA, and she has presented on sepsis, antiarrhythmics, and chronic pain at Dannemiller Reviews.
Known for her expertise in theory and practice of simulation-based education, Courtney has served as a consultant on the use of simulation in a CRNA program as an accreditation reviewer for SACS, and she has lectured to the American Board of Nursing Specialties regarding the use of simulation for competency assessment as well as writing Standardized Clinical Experiences curriculum for METI. Serving as our Associate Director, Courtney currently conducts didactic teaching and manages special projects related to program administration, curricular development, accreditation, and managing educational outcomes.
