Counseling & Wellness Services

Counseling & Wellness Services serves medical, physician assistant, nurse anesthesia, graduate, and post-baccalaureate students in the Wake Forest School of Medicine.

Medical, physician assistant, and graduate student education can be an exciting time of growth and learning. The intensity of the pace and competing demands on your time can also stretch your normal coping mechanisms. Many students find that participating in wellness activities and seeking the support of counseling professionals can enhance their ability to thrive in this intense and highly demanding environment. That is why we are here. Services offered are completely free and confidential.

Counseling & Wellness Services is here to help students at Wake Forest School of Medicine find their compass and cultivate resources so that they can successfully navigate the demands of higher education to become thriving citizen-professionals in healthcare.

Our staff includes licensed mental health professionals who are committed to:

  • Student growth and well-being
  • Diversity as a core value
  • Healthy emotional and social development
  • Modeling and demonstrating self-care and balance
  • Adaptable, flexible, and creative services
  • Integrity in our actions

  • Our students are courageous, innately resourceful, and fiercely curious
  • Our clients are the best expert on themselves
  • That making a decision to seek support through counseling is a sign of strength and wisdom
  • Every human has inherent potential for healing and growth

We provide individual, group, and couples counseling, consultation, coaching, and wellness outreach in order to support and promote the emotional, intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual wellness of students in the Wake Forest School of Medicine.

Our services are offered within a context that respects the unique dignity and strength of each person and honors cultural and individual differences. We aim to foster a community that empowers all people and creates opportunities for students to cultivate internal and external resources for managing mental health concerns and celebrating achievements.

We are a therapy center rather than a 24/7 crisis center, though we have a counselor available for those who are experiencing an urgent or life-threatening mental health crisis.

Additionally, CWS serves in an advisory and consultative role to the School of Medicine at large. As mental health experts and advocates, we work in conjunction with our colleagues in Student Affairs to help create an environment that supports learning and develops the whole person.
