Zachary Hartsell joins PA Studies
Zachary Hartsell, MPAS, PA-C
Zachary Hartsell, MPAS, PA-C, joined the Department of Physician Assistant Studies as an associate professor in July 2013. He is the Director of Postgraduate Education and Vice Chair of Operations and Workforce Development in PA Studies; and Director of PA Services at Wake Forest Baptist Health within the Chief Medical Officer's office, where he works to develop best practices for physician assistants while simultaneously maximizing PA utilization and productivity.
Before coming to Wake Forest, Professor Hartsell was a supervisor in the Department of Hospital Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He also served as the administrative director of the Postgraduate Physician Assistant Fellowship in Hospital Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic and was part-time faculty at the Midwestern University PA program. He has practiced in emergency medicine, inpatient cardiology, and hospital medicine. In addition, he spent a year working in the National Health Service in Scotland in emergency medicine and advocating for the development of the PA profession in Britain. He is the American Academy of Physician Assistants liaison to the Society of Hospital Medicine and a regular speaker at national conferences on hospital medicine and PA topics. He serves on AAPA's national conference education planning committee and on the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants editorial board.
