Parents and Children Together Preventing Diabetes

What we are studying

In response to the growing threat of obesity on the health of American children, specifically African American children, this research study is being done to develop a program to educate and motivate African American families to improve health behavior for obesity reduction and diabetes prevention. This project is a partnership with local YMCAs and Family Health Coaches from the YMCAs who will work one-on-one with families.

Who we are studying

  • Men and Women
  • Races:
    • African American
  • All Ethnicities
  • Ages 8 - 65

Eligibility Criteria

  • African American parents and their 8-10 year old children
  • At risk for developing diabetes

What is involved

  • Weekly hour-long meetings for 12 weeks

Compensation

Parent and child will each receive $25 per data collection visit for total $75 each.
