C. diff Vaccine

What we are studying

This study will evaluate whether an investigational vaccine, called Clostridium difficile Toxoid Vaccine, can protect against a symptomatic bacterial infection caused by the organism Clostridium difficile (known as C. diff).

Who we are studying

  • Men and Women
  • Races:
    • White
    • African American
    • Asian
    • American Indian or Alaska Native
    • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
    • Other
  • All Ethnicities
  • Ages 50+

Eligibility Criteria

  • Hospitalized at least 2 times for 3 days or more in the last 12 months
  • Taken antibiotics in the past 12 months
  • Going to be hospitalized in the near future for at least 3 days for a planned surgery

What is involved

  • Receive vaccine or placebo (3 shots)
  • Have blood samples drawn
  • Record side effects/reactions
  • Extra clinic visits
