Study of the Effects of Caloric Restriction and Exercise Training

What we are studying

The purpose of this research study is to study the long-term effects of a weight loss and exercise program compared to a weight loss, exercise and strength training program on physical function, quality of life, and body composition.

  • All Ethnicities
  • Ages 60+

Eligibility Criteria

  • BMI greater than or equal to 28
  • Symptoms of HFpEF (heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.)

What is involved

  • Brief history and physical exam
  • 3 echocardiograms
  • Multiple blood pressure checks
  • Height
  • Weight
  • 2 MRI
  • 2 muscle biopsies
  • 2 DEXA
  • Pulmonary function test
  • 2 short physical performance battery
  • 2 6-minute walks
  • 2 treadmill exercise test
  • 2 blood draws
