Weight Loss in Pre-diabetics

What we are studying

This study involves being placed into a weight loss group where you would be asked to attend a weekly weight loss group and eat a prescribed diet or you will be asked to maintain your weight and then after 4 months you will be asked to join a weekly weight loss group. This study is to see how weight loss improves glucose control (how your body processes sugar) and prevents diabetes. The purpose of this research study is to see if changes in blood and fat cells during weight loss can help explain the benefits of weight loss.

Who we are studying

  • Men and Women
  • Races:
    • White
    • African American
    • Asian
    • American Indian or Alaska Native
    • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
    • Other
  • Not Hispanic or Latino
  • Ages 40 - 65

Eligibility Criteria

  • Sedentary
  • Overweight
  • Non-Smoker
  • Willing to come weekly and eat follow diet plan to loose weight

What is involved

  • 5-6 clinic visits that involving
  • Questionnaires
  • Blood draw
  • Physical function testing
  • Memory testing
  • Fat sampling
  • Weekly group sessions
