Randomized Trial Comparing Vaginal Laser Therapy to Vaginal Estrogen Therapy (VeLVET)

What we are studying

Study volunteers who qualify will either be given laser therapy or vaginal estrogen therapy for vaginal atrophy symptoms.

Who is Eligible

• Genders:
  • Women
• Races:
  • White
  • African American
  • Asian
  • American Indian or Alaska Native
  • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
  • Other
• All Ethnicities
• Ages 18+

Eligibility Criteria

• Absence of menstruation for at least 12 months
• Presence of vaginal atrophy/dryness symptoms
• No pelvic surgery within 6 months
• No acute or recurrent UTI or genital infections such as herpes or frequent or current yeast infections
• No scleroderma
• No vaginal estrogen cream/ring/tablet within 1 month

What is involved

• Physical with pelvic exam
• Possible vaginal laser therapy or vaginal estrogen cream therapy
• Questionnaires
• 4 visits
