Hypoglycemic Symptoms Study for those who regularly have symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemic symptoms), but do not have diabetes.

What we are studying

The purpose of this research study is to test whether continuous glucose monitors and Zio patch devices can be used to collect data on the causes of hypoglycemic symptoms in individuals without diabetes.

Who is Eligible

    • African American
    • Asian
    • American Indian or Alaska Native
    • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
    • Other
  • All Ethnicities
  • Ages 18 - 35

Eligibility Criteria

  • Have symptoms of low blood sugar when you are fasting or between meals
  • Have these symptoms regularly or frequently when you are fasting or between meals (2 or more times a week)
  • Never been diagnosed with diabetes
  • Never been diagnosed with kidney disease
  • Not currently pregnant
  • Do not wear an external cardiac defibrillator
  • Do not wear a neuro-stimulator
  • Do not have an MRI scheduled in the near future
  • Are unable to wear devices that are attached to the body with adhesive
  • Willing to wear a blood sugar monitor (about the size of a small cell phone) and an ECG monitor (a patch like a bandaid) for 7 days
  • Willing to do a finger stick to get a drop of your blood to calibrate the blood sugar monitor twice a day for 7 days
  • Willing to complete a diary that includes writing down when you have symptoms
  • When you eat
  • And when you exercise for 7 days

What is involved

  • Wear a blood sugar monitor for 7 days
  • Wear an ECG monitor for 7 days
  • Willing to do a finger stick to get a drop of your blood to calibrate the blood sugar monitor twice a day for 7 days
  • Complete a diary of symptoms and meals and exercise for 7 days

Compensation

$25 gift card for participating in each study visit (2 visits) and $25 for completing the study diary for a total gift card value of $75.
