What does "exposure to brain injury" mean?
Think of it like exposure to the sun...one hour a day of exposure may not cause sunburn but that kind of exposure over a long period of time can still cause skin cancer. Similarly, a player may not get a concussion from one particular impact or maybe never have a diagnosed concussion, but the exposure to impacts over a period of time may still cause long term effects on the brain.
Changes to youth football practices may equal a reduction in impacts and exposure to brain injuries.
Be ready for an emergency:
- Create a concussion action plan, including the location of nearby trauma centers, if available
- Identify appropriate health professionals for games and practices to assess concussion among athletes
