Learning Opportunities

The Center for Experiential and Applied Learning (CEAL) brings together a svariety of resources at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Innovation Quarter to create a center for shared learning among professionals. Clinical practitioners are helped to become competent in new procedures and to develop ways to verify and assess levels of competency.

Anatomical Resource Clinical Training Center (ARCTC)– In the age of computerization, hands-on practice with authentic human tissues is still the most valuable asset for experiential and applied learning that improves patient care. ARCTC utilizes tissues, novel curricula, and state-of-the art technologies to enhance clinical procedure training.

Simulation Lab – Dedicated patient simulation facilities with synthetic tissue trainers and specialized education and assessment services make us one of only a few sites in the southeast United States endorsed by the American Society for Anesthesiology for its recertification courses. The simulation labs can be equipped with full body simulators, task trainers and standardized patients to optimize the learning and assessment opportunities. 

Surgery Academy, Mock Operating Room, Surgical Skills Lab, Simulation Skills Lab – State-of-the-art facilities provide a variety of immersive learning environments to prepare individuals and teams for basic to advanced clinical procedures.

Standardized Patient Education and Assessment Program – Trained live standardized patients and state-of-the art outpatient and inpatient exam rooms ensure consistent and reliable education and assessment for a variety of instructional needs.

Student-Centered Learning Environment – Unique classroom designs shift learning from passive to active mode, encouraging interaction with faculty and the larger group.

Ultrasound Education – Instructors who are luminaries in the field, state-of-the art curricula and facilities, and hands-on practice in dedicated labs are available to help learners. Small groups ensure an immersive learning experience where participants acquire new skills, form new relationships, and grow professionally.

Instructional and Curriculum Design Services - A team of instructional and curriculum design specialists are available to assist with development of educational and assessment activities.
