Learning Opportunities

The Center for Applied Learning brings together a synergy of specialists, strategies, facilities and capabilities at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to create a nexus for shared learning among professionals. We help clinical practitioners become competent in new procedures and develop ways to verify and assess levels of competency.

Anatomical Resource Clinical Training Center – In the age of computerization, hands-on practice with authentic human tissues is still the most valuable asset for applied learning that improves patient care. The ARCTC utilizes tissues, novel curricula, and state-of-the art technologies to enhance clinical procedure training.

Distinctive Operational Medicine– We are a nationally recognized leader in medical training capabilities for trauma combat casualty care and advanced tactical medicine with customized curricula and faculty members who have served in these roles.

Patient Simulation Lab – Three dedicated patient simulation facilities with synthetic tissue trainers and specialized training/testing services make us one of only a few sites in the southeast United States endorsed by the American Society for Anesthesiology for its recertification courses.

Surgery Academy, Mock Operating Room, Surgical Skills Lab – Our facilities provide an immersive learning environment that prepares individuals and teams for basic to advanced surgical procedures.

Standardized Patient Assessment Rooms – Trained live patient simulators and state-of-the art exam rooms ensure consistent and reliable training and assessment for a variety of instructional needs.

Student-Centered Applied Learning Environment – Our classroom design shifts learning from passive to active mode, encouraging interaction with faculty and the larger group.

Ultrasound Education – We offer instructors who are luminaries in the field, state-of-the art curricula and facilities, and hands-on practice in dedicated labs. Small groups ensure an immersive learning experience where participants acquire new skills, form new relationships, and grow professionally.
