Standardized Patient Assessment Capabilities
Wake Forest School of Medicine was an early leader in developing and implementing the Standardized Patient Assessment (SPA) as part of its medical curriculum. The SPA exam provides direct observation, training and assessment of doctor-patient interactions while collecting patient histories and conducting physical examinations, as well as the management of patients in the clinical setting.
Our SPA Program includes more than 40 actors skilled in live patient simulation and a facility with 10 examination rooms, each equipped for direct observation, wireless communication and video recording.
The Center for Applied Learning offers components of the SPA training and assessment to a variety of refresher courses and advanced training events to enhance and evaluate patient care interactions with practitioners. The center also has the capability to utilize standardized patients within the clinical workplace for immersive learning projects.
