Center for Public Health Genomics
Director: Carl D. Langefeld, PhD
Business Representative: Laurie Russell, MS
The Center for Public
Health Genomics seeks to encourage and facilitate research related to the
genomics of diseases and disorders of significant personal and public health
burden through the exchange of ideas, interdepartmental collaborations, and
development of shared analytic tools and analysis pipelines. Areas of focus
include the institutionally strategic areas of aging/cognition, diabetes,
obesity, cancer and regenerative medicine.
The Center’s focus is primarily on the quantitative and population-based
aspects of genomics research and is complementary and synergistic to other
genomics and institutional efforts. The Center will contribute to the
institutional mission by connecting researchers, encouraging multi-disciplinary
collaborations and developing statistical and bioinformatic infrastructure for
“Next Generation” genomic / omic questions. Output from this Center is
intended to be an institutional resource with equal access and inclusion for
anyone, regardless of being a formal member.
The Center for Public Health Genomics feels it is important to
have a diverse and open multi-disciplinary membership that will contribute to
facilitating and enabling research at the intersection of public health and
genomics. The Center for Public Health Genomics membership is open to faculty,
staff, and students. For more information, please see the Center for
Public Health Genomics membership guidelines. If you are interested in
becoming a member of the Center for Public Health Genomics, please complete
the Membership Application and return to Laurie Russell.
The Center for Public Health Genomics views ongoing education
and collaborations as integral to the development of students, staff and
faculty. The Center offers partial scholarships to students, staff and
faculty for travel to national meetings to present their research. If you
are interested in applying for a travel scholarship, please complete the
Travel Award Application and return to Laurie Russell.
