Laura Hinkle Bachmann, MD, MPH

Bachmann is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. She has spent over a decade evaluating and managing male and female patients in STD clinic settings as well as serving as an HIV primary care provider for male and female patients, including pregnant HIV-infected females. Since her move to Wake Forest University Health Sciences, she continues to work with the AL/NC STD/HIV PTC to expand and enhance clinical STD training for providers across NC and the surrounding states.

Bachmann’s research interest relates to broad aspects of STD/HIV control including the training of health care providers in the clinical management of STD/HIV, screening individuals for STD/HIV in clinical and non-clinical settings and secondary HIV transmission prevention.  Most recently, Bachmann has worked with the long-haul trucker population and trucking-related businesses to define health risks faced by the trucker population.

Bachmann serves as a consultant for the CDC STD Treatment Guidelines.  She has a joint appointment with the WG Hefner Medical Center (Veterans Administration Medical Center) and is actively pursuing research related to STD/HIV control in the veteran population.
