Division of FaithHealth Ministries

The mission of the Division of FaithHealth Ministries is to build, align and animate the full breadth of religious and community health assets to improve access and advance health status beginning with those served by Wake Forest Baptist Health.

The ministry of compassion has been a part of the Medical Center for more than 60 years, and has grown along with the medical center. This history and growth make the chaplaincy and education program not only the oldest in the Southeast region, but one of the largest of its kind anywhere.  The Department of FaithHealth Ministries and FaithHealth Education provide chaplaincy ministry to the Medical Center. Through our accredited programs of ministry training, we combine ministry and education, serving both the patients of the medical center and ministers seeking to become more effective servants of the people.

Chaplaincy

Ministering to the spiritual needs of patients, families, and staff has always been a part of the care provided at Wake Forest Baptist Health.  Staff, resident, and intern chaplains are available to provide emotional and spiritual support and other services to patients, families and staff throughout the hospital. Chaplains respond to a variety of spiritual needs for all people, with or without a faith tradition. Chaplains serve as members of Medical Center committees, providing expertise in ethics, spiritual care, and education.

Chaplains at the Medical Center serve in a number of capacities. The Department of FaithHealth Chaplains and Clinical Ministries are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.  provides 24-hour on-call ministry within the hospital. Chaplains provide routine visits and crisis ministry to patients and families around the clock, across the full range of medical, emotional, and spiritual crises.  .

Dr. Jay Foster is the Director of FaithHealth Chaplaincy and Clinical Ministries.

In CPE, theological students, ordained clergy, members of religious orders and qualified laypersons minister under supervision to people with a variety of pastoral needs. CPE proposes to study "the living human document" of both self and other, toward the ends of more authentic and effective ministry. The Department of FaithHealth Education offers CPE year-round in several settings and at various levels of specialization.
