Community Financial Support

This chart shows how Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center directed resources to the benefit of the community in the 2015 fiscal year. The total of $376.3 million represents a 38 percent increase over the $272.6 million spent in the previous fiscal year. This support includes:

  • Charity care
  • Community groups and community programming
  • Education and training in the medical and health professions
  • Research efforts
  • Subsidized health services—primarily the Downtown Health Plaza in Winston-Salem
  • Unreimbursed costs of government-funded programs—primarily Medicare and Medicaid
