Gynecologic Oncology
About Gynecologic Cancers
Gynecologic cancers affect organs in a woman’s reproductive tract. They can occur at any time and often do not have symptoms until the tumors have spread. However, many women can have successful outcomes, particularly in an academic medical center, like Wake Forest, where a multidisciplinary approach is used.
Further, at Wake Forest, we offer Patient and Family Support Services, which help women and their families during cancer treatment. Our goal is to offer comprehensive, excellent care in a supportive, caring environment.
Multidisciplinary Approach to Cancer Treatment at Wake Forest
A multidisciplinary approach means that different types of specialists who specialize in treating gynecologic cancers will evaluate you and participate in your treatment planning. You will see your gynecologic oncologist, who will lead your treatment, and radiation oncologists who plan radiation treatments will participate in your care. Your gynecologic oncologist will direct and manage your chemotherapy treatments.
