Gynecologic Oncology
Diagnosis and Treatment: Gynecologic Oncology
At Wake Forest, we treat the following gynecologic cancers:
Diagnosis and Treatment of Gynecologic Cancers
Imaging: Diagnosing gynecologic cancers involves assessing the symptoms of the patient and deciding on the right type of imaging to accurately capture the best possible information about possible tumor growth.
Biopsy: After imaging, our team of gynecologic oncologists will probably recommend a biopsy, to determine if the growth is malignant (cancerous) or benign. If the tumor is malignant, our gynecologic oncologists will work with you to determine a treatment plan that involves any of the three possible treatment approaches, or in combination:
Our gynecologic oncologists are experts in both traditional, open approaches and minimally invasive approaches to gynecologic surgery, including using the da Vinci™ Surgical System.
Our doctors use a combination of systemic and targeted chemotherapy to achieve the best possible result. Your gynecologic oncologist will design and manage your chemotherapy treatments. Learn more about chemotherapy.
Wake Forest has the most advanced radiation treatment therapies in North Carolina and our radiation oncologists have the expertise and experience you need for successful gynecologic cancer treatment. Learn more about radiation therapy.
