Patient Story: Jarred Smith
Nine-year-old Jarred Smith was training for cross-country track when he noticed that he was feeling especially tired. When he experienced a recurring fever, his parents, concerned he had a virus, made him an appointment with his pediatrician.
Later that night, the pediatrician called with the news; the diagnosis was leukemia. Jarred was admitted to Brenner Children’s Hospital. Once his type of leukemia was identified, doctors worked with Jarred and his family to determine what treatment options were available. Fortunately, his type of cancer, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, was caught early and is completely treatable.
Jarred is now a healthy 14 year-old and his mother, Cheryl, serves on the Brenner Children's Hospital Parents' Advisory Board.
Here, they share the story of his experience at Brenner Children’s Hospital.
