Patient Story: Jarred Smith
Eight-year-old Jarred Smith was training for cross-country track when he noticed that he was feeling especially tired. When he experienced a recurring fever, his parents, concerned he had a virus, made him an appointment with Dr. Becky Weinshilboum, known among her pediatric patients as Dr. Becky.
Later that night, Dr. Becky called with the news; the diagnosis was leukemia. Jarred was admitted to Brenner Children’s Hospital. Once his type of leukemia was identified, doctors worked with Jarred and his family to determine what treatment options were available. Fortunately, his type of cancer, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, was caught early and is completely treatable.
He and his mother, Cheryl, share the story of his experience at Brenner Children’s Hospital.
