Pediatric Oncology
Nothing is scarier than contemplating a possible cancer diagnosis in a child. As parents, you have so many questions: Who are the right physicians to treat our child? What is the right treatment? Who will tell us what we should do next?
Expert Pediatric Oncology Care in North Carolina
Our pediatric oncology program provides comprehensive treatment programs for most childhood malignancies. Our patients are treated at Brenner Children’s Hospital by a team of trained pediatric specialists, including pediatric hematologists and oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, and psychologists. Our pediatric cancer patients come from western and west-central North Carolina and from the adjacent regions of Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina.
A special pediatric oncology conference, which includes these pediatric specialists as well as diagnostic radiologists and pathologists, is regularly held to discuss and coordinate the multidisciplinary care of children with cancer, including their psychosocial and emotional needs. Brenner Children’s Hospital is a state-of-the-art, family-centered facility, that has been recognized by Child magazine as one of the nation’s top pediatric hospitals.
Pediatric Oncology Clinical Trials
As an active participant in cooperative national trials through the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), our pediatric oncology practice offers the most advanced treatments available. As a national COG resource, our cytogenics laboratory, the first in North Carolina, is engaged in leukemia cell research to find the best treatment methods for children.
