Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been recognized by the Sarcoma Alliance as a designated Sarcoma Center. An acknowledgment given to leaders in sarcoma research and treatment, we are one of only two institutions in North Carolina and 52 in the country to hold this designation. The Sarcoma Alliance strives to improve the lives of people affected by sarcoma through accurate diagnosis, improved access to care, guidance, education and support.
Surgical Treatment for Sarcomas
Surgery is a cornerstone of sarcoma treatment. Your doctor will decide on the best surgical approach based on the following factors:
- Tumor size
- Degree of differentiation (what the tumor looks like under the microscope)
- Where the tumor occurs in the body
Our surgical oncologists manage the diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue sarcomas using a multidisciplinary approach. Both our medical oncologists and surgical oncologists have a special interest in the management of sarcomas. Our orthopaedic oncologists manage bone sarcomas.
Clinical Trials for Sarcomas
At the Comprehensive Cancer Center, we are heavily involved in clinical research and currently have more than 14 open clinical trials to investigate new methods for treating sarcoma. We strive to make cutting-edge trials available to all of our patients, and insist that participation is always the patient’s choice. Learn more about cancer clinical trials at Wake Forest Baptist.
