Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Melanoma arises from the part of the skin that gives it its color. Caught in early stages, skin cancer cells can be removed from the skin without additional treatments. Advanced Surgical Treatments for Melanoma Patients
Wake Forest Surgical Oncologists were the first in the region to start using sentinel lymph node mapping techniques to see if the melanoma has spread to the lymph nodes. They are now treating advanced melanoma with clinical immunotherapy. For melanomas recurring in the limbs, there are advanced, targeted chemotherapy techniques that focus only on treating the affected areas with localized chemotherapy infusions. Clinical trials exploring options for improved outcomes for advanced melanoma patients may be available.
