Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is supportive of educating the public on nutrition and healthy eating behaviors. Nutrition is one key area of concern when it comes to disease prevention. This web site has been created  to assist you in making healthier food choices.

The fast pace of our society, dual parents working out of the home, many children’s activities to attend, and food at our fingertips are only a few things that make it easy for Americans to consume excess calories and not enough proper nutrients. Maintaining proper nutrition requires eating foods that provide the right amounts of certain nutrients needed to help the body function.

A healthy, balanced meal plan consists of a variety of nutrient-rich foods, with an emphasis on certain foods including:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Low-fat milk products
  • Lean meats
  • Poultry
  • Fish
  • Beans
  • Nuts

To assist with attaining the proper nutrients foods with the following should be limited:

  • Saturated fats
  • Trans fats
  • Salt
  • Added sugars
  • Cholesterol
