Promoting safe laboratory practices, procedures, and proper use of containment equipment by laboratory workers to prevent occupational exposures to infectious materials or release of organisms to the environment.
Umbrella/Piggy Back or Broad Scope ProtocolsLast fall, the Institutional Biosafety Committee endorsed the concept of each investigator submitting an application to cover their use of any biologicals, including use of human cells, specific to their research. This endorsement eliminates the use of umbrella protocols. Such broad applications are not in keeping with the spirit or intent of the NIH Guidelines for use of Recombinant DNA. If you have questions as to whether your application might be categorized as a broad or umbrella application, please contact Bernie Menuey at 6-6440 or Eric Steelman at 6-4254.
