Head and Neck Cancer Treatments & Therapies

In addition to surgery, other head and neck cancer treatments at Wake Forest Baptist include chemotherapy, radiation therapy or often, a combination of therapies. Your doctors will work closely with you to select the most effective head and neck cancer treatment, depending on the stage, size, location of cancer and other individual factors.

Chemotherapy

Our head and neck oncologists are highly specialized and treat only patients with head and neck cancers, so you can be assured that you are receiving the best in chemotherapy treatment. They are experts in using chemotherapy to target and kill cancer cells and prevent future spreading of the disease. We are actively involved in research exploring effective, new modalities of care, and we participate in clinical trials for head and neck cancer treatment. Radiation Therapy

Our radiation oncologists specialize in using radioactive beams to target and destroy cancer cells. Precise, advanced radiation treatment is critical when treating head and neck cancers, because the delicate structures near these tumors need protection from radiation.

Many of our patients see promising resulting using radiation in combination with robotic surgery or using head and neck chemotherapy with surgery and/or radiation. We round out head and neck cancer treatment by providing advanced support services like swallowing and speech therapy and Patient and Family Support Services programs.
