Voice Therapy at Wake Forest Baptist in North Carolina

Wake Forest Baptist’s voice therapy program helps singers, actors and other frequent voice users, like teachers and lawyers, achieve and maintain a healthy voice. We work with performers that are active in the arts and entertainment scene, helping restore balance, breathing, resonance and endurance to their speaking and singing voice. We also treat individuals who have difficulty speaking, whether from vocal misuse, overuse, injury or other complications.

Voice Therapy

The goal is to help you regain as close to your “normal” voice as possible, so you can improve ease of communication and resume daily life activities. We are dedicated to helping you build, strengthen and restore your voice. Voice therapy can resolve certain types of vocal fold lesions, strengthen weak vocal folds and reduce compensatory behaviors. It may be recommended after certain types of laryngeal surgery to reduce the possibility of scarring or further injury. We also treat individuals with chronic cough and paradoxical vocal fold movement (PVFM).

We offer the following therapies:

  • Comprehensive acoustic and perceptual voice evaluations
  • Voice therapy for the speaking voice
  • Singing voice rehabilitation for vocational and professional voice users in our piano suite
  • Laryngeal control therapy
  • Accent modification - an elective therapy focused on reducing unwanted accents or dialects when speaking English
