Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is internationally recognized for the diagnosis and effective treatment of epilepsy.

With a comprehensive approach to care, our Center is among the top-rated epilepsy programs in the country and the only program in our region to meet the Level IV guidelines of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers – the highest level of accreditation a medical center can achieve.

Comprehensive Epilepsy Care for Every Patient

Our team of epileptologists (neurologists who specialize in epilepsy and seizure disorders) are fully trained and experienced in treating patients of all ages.

Trained in neurology, epilepsy and pediatrics, our pediatric epileptologists have extensive experience working with infants and children with epilepsy and related neurological conditions.

We offer advanced care for women with epilepsy including birth control, prenatal counseling, pregnancy and menopause-related issues.

We provide care for patients with epilepsy complicated by other neurological conditions such as stroke, brain injury and brain tumors.

In addition to diagnosis and care of isolated and new onset seizures, we specialize in challenging epilepsy situations – such as patients for whom multiple seizure medications have failed.

Our epilepsy specialists conduct research on neurological diseases, guaranteeing our patients access to the very best and newest treatments available. As part of total patient care, we offer up-to-date epilepsy education and information regarding driving, employment, school and safety.

Advanced Epilepsy Diagnosis and Treatment Options

The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center strives for all patients with epilepsy to be seizure-free. Just 10 years ago, seizure-free living was unthinkable for many people with epilepsy, but today it can be achieved, even for difficult-to-control cases.

For patients with epilepsy, determining the most accurate diagnosis is critical to mapping out the most effective possible treatment strategy. Our Center offers patients a state-of-the-art Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and advanced diagnostic mapping to identify seizure origination and recommend treatments based on those findings.

Our neurosurgeons and epileptologists are leaders in epilepsy surgery and the use of MRI-guided laser surgeries to help prevent seizures. Laser surgeries offer a minimally-invasive approach to surgery and a safer, more immediate treatment option.

Other treatment options include lifestyle and dietary changes, like the ketogenic diet.
