Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Walt Curl has served on the battlefield and the sports field. The recipient of two Bronze Stars and the team doctor for professional and college athletes, he's also one of our orthopaedic surgeons among the 214 doctors from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center named to the Best Doctors in America®.
His specialties include adolescent and adult sports medicine and general orthopaedics. Dr. Curl graduated from the U.S. Military Academy and Duke University School of Medicine. He completed a residency and internship in orthopaedic surgery at Letterman Army Medical Center and completed a fellowship at Keller Army Hospital.
Dr. Curl served in Vietnam, in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and in Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia. He retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine and is a professor of orthopaedic surgery.
