What brought you to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center?

I have been practicing general internal medicine for a number of years in a multispecialty clinic in Florida. I decided to come here for two main reasons. First, I am very excited to be involved in an academic medical center practice because it allows me to practice up-to-the-minute internal medicine care, and it allows me to be involved in the teaching/training mission of the Medical Center. Second, I am a North Carolinian, and am excited about returning to my home state.

What are your clinical specialties?

My area of practice and interest is adult primary care, focusing on preventive care, acute illness care, and providing patients with care coordination for their medical problems, which often involve many different physicians in different specialties.

Why did you decide to become a primary care doctor?

Being a primary care doctor was the best way to accomplish the goals detailed in my answer above.

What is your patient care philosophy?

Simply put: to provide the best care I am capable of, for every patient every time.

What do you enjoy most about working with patients?

Each patient is unique. Each patient has his or her unique personality, life experiences and challenges. Each has his or her unique medical concerns and needs. Working with patients is always challenging, but very rewarding.

What type of volunteer and/or community activities are you involved in? What fun facts should we know about you?

Because my wife and I have only recently moved to Winston-Salem, we have not had the opportunity to become involved yet. We have always been very active in our church and are looking for a church to join here in town. I am very interested in the DEAC clinic, but have not yet had the chance to see if I can help with that.

I enjoy running (well I enjoy it more when it is finished for the day) and I love to snow ski.

Dr. Hix is the best

Dr. Hix is very professional and courteous with you as he explains procedures and need for medications, proper diet, and exercise.

Dr. Hix is a great gentleman and a great physician. I am fortunate to be under his care.

Dr. Hix is wonderful. This visit in particular was a follow up, and he has been with me every step of the way. Making sure that my privacy is kept to the upmost standards, making me aware of all options with the benefits/risks to every decision that I make-- He has been a pleasure to work with and I am doing a lot better since choosing Dr. Hix.

Dr. Hix is always very thorough, friendly, and helpful! I really appreciate his professionalism and care of my health issues!

It is easy for the physician when he can pull my records up on line. I like that fact. He is very patient and always goes over my chart.

I have no problems with any of the staff or Doctor Hix. I answered never for medication, because it said 3 month, it was over 3 months since I last saw him. dr Hix explained new medications I was just placed on at my visit. I am glad I choose his office for my health needs.

Excellent experience

confidence in Dr Hex is exceptional

Dr. Hix is great!

Very happy with Dr. Hix. he has been proactive, and his concerns have always proved on target. This man knows what he is doing, and does it well.

excellent experience

Dr. Hix is very thorough and he does not rush the appointment along. We talked primarily about my blood pressure and since I had a reaction to the Lisinopril, stopping that medication altogether. This meant a lot to me as I am dealing with my mothers passing.

excellent care
