What brought you to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center?
I have been practicing general internal medicine for a number of years in a multispecialty clinic in Florida. I decided to come here for two main reasons. First, I am very excited to be involved in an academic medical center practice because it allows me to practice up-to-the-minute internal medicine care, and it allows me to be involved in the teaching/training mission of the Medical Center. Second, I am a North Carolinian, and am excited about returning to my home state.
What are your clinical specialties?
My area of practice and interest is adult primary care, focusing on preventive care, acute illness care, and providing patients with care coordination for their medical problems, which often involve many different physicians in different specialties.
Why did you decide to become a primary care doctor?
Being a primary care doctor was the best way to accomplish the goals detailed in my answer above.
What is your patient care philosophy?
Simply put: to provide the best care I am capable of, for every patient every time.
What do you enjoy most about working with patients?
Each patient is unique. Each patient has his or her unique personality, life experiences and challenges. Each has his or her unique medical concerns and needs. Working with patients is always challenging, but very rewarding.
What type of volunteer and/or community activities are you involved in? What fun facts should we know about you?
Because my wife and I have only recently moved to Winston-Salem, we have not had the opportunity to become involved yet. We have always been very active in our church and are looking for a church to join here in town. I am very interested in the DEAC clinic, but have not yet had the chance to see if I can help with that.
I enjoy running (well I enjoy it more when it is finished for the day) and I love to snow ski.

I am very sick but no diagnosis or follow-up plan was made. I am suffering greatly and lost my job due to this recent mysterious illness.
I find Dr. Hix to be compassionate and very caring, Being a new patient I feel comfortable with him and find him to be very medically savvy. I trust his diagnosis and suggested treatments. I am glad that my son who is a patient of Dr. Hix, recommended him to by husband and I.
Seen Dr. Hix twice, now. Getting comfortable with him as my primary care physician.
I was very pleased
He became slightly abrupt when I wanted to deviate a bit from his agenda for the visit. Perhaps this is driven by WFBH criteria to keep each visit to a specified length of time?
I've recommended Dr. Hix to everyone I know who has moved to town. He is respectful of my time, explains things quickly and clearly. Listens to my questions and yet moves the appointment along very well. He shoots straight, but is never rude about it. He is knowledgeable in his field and speaks with confidence. The best GP doc I've had since I was a kid.
Dr. Hix was well prepared for my visit He obviously had read my medical records and was familiar with my medical background and needs.
This provider is not my normal physician but since I was feeling sick, I was told that he would be seeing me. I would not go back to him as my primary physician. He does not have very good bedside manner, and if given the choice of having to see him again, I will just wait or go to the Urgent Care clinic downstairs. Not a person I would choose as a personal physician and would not recommend him to anyone else I know. I'm sure he's a fine physician but just not the right fit for me.
This was my first visit with Dr. Hix as my new primary care physician and I was very impressed. I plan on returning to him with all of my primary care needs.
Retired RN; able to communicate/understand.
Dr. Hix is a great provider
This was my initial visit with Dr Hix as my last physician left the practice He is very professional and easy to talk to and involved my opinion in my care. As far as an annual physical, the history taking was great but the physical exam was lacking. I see my physician once a year and feel I did not receive a thorough physical.
sometimes I feel he talks down to me, oversimplifying information....sometimes he does a much better job giving me the whole story with the details I want.
I would recommend the entire Baptist Health system including Dr. Hix to anyone. All of my medical care and my wife's medical care is at Baptist.
I have appreciated the care Dr Hix has provided.
