What brought you to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center?
I have been practicing general internal medicine for a number of years in a multispecialty clinic in Florida. I decided to come here for two main reasons. First, I am very excited to be involved in an academic medical center practice because it allows me to practice up-to-the-minute internal medicine care, and it allows me to be involved in the teaching/training mission of the Medical Center. Second, I am a North Carolinian, and am excited about returning to my home state.
What are your clinical specialties?
My area of practice and interest is adult primary care, focusing on preventive care, acute illness care, and providing patients with care coordination for their medical problems, which often involve many different physicians in different specialties.
Why did you decide to become a primary care doctor?
Being a primary care doctor was the best way to accomplish the goals detailed in my answer above.
What is your patient care philosophy?
Simply put: to provide the best care I am capable of, for every patient every time.
What do you enjoy most about working with patients?
Each patient is unique. Each patient has his or her unique personality, life experiences and challenges. Each has his or her unique medical concerns and needs. Working with patients is always challenging, but very rewarding.
What type of volunteer and/or community activities are you involved in? What fun facts should we know about you?
Because my wife and I have only recently moved to Winston-Salem, we have not had the opportunity to become involved yet. We have always been very active in our church and are looking for a church to join here in town. I am very interested in the DEAC clinic, but have not yet had the chance to see if I can help with that.
I enjoy running (well I enjoy it more when it is finished for the day) and I love to snow ski.

This was my first appointment with Dr. Hix. He explained the results of my physical exam very clearly and was very efficient in the process. I was impressed that he personally called me the next morning to discuss the results of my blood test.
My last appointment seem very rushed and not as thorough an examination
I have seen Dr. Hix for some 3 years or so now and find him to be very attentive to my needs and wanting always to do the best we can to achieve excellent results....I appreciate his medical guidance.
Dr. Hix is a great provider. He is the best I have ever had-I have plenty of bad ones at other facilities out of Baptist
Dr. Hix is very good; I am glad I connected with him as my primary care physician.
I was so impress that I brought my husband to see Dr.Hix also. He worries about me more than I worry about myself. They are a very good team.
Positive experience as usual.

Dr. Hix is very good; I made a very good choice when I selected him from among the WFBH internists.
Every time I tried to talk to explain something he cut me off !!!!!!!
Dr. Hix is always nice and great in explaining my care.
Computer seems more impt than patient!
I am coming back.
*Dr. Hix is always concerned, professional, and polite. I have total confidence in his entire staff.
Dr. Hix was most pleasant and courteous at my last visit; however, there are times that I have seen him in the past and that has not been the case. At some visits in the past, he has been arrogant and condescending and at other times he is very helpful and friendly.
Dr. Hix is frank and straight-forward. I appreciate his deliberateness. He dosen't make me feel "looked down" upon or un-intelligent. He is friendly and approachable.
I am always impressed by Dr. Hix. He is knowledgeable, competent, kind, and a very likable physician. WFBH has a great reputation and it is people like Dr. Hix who help maintain its status.
