Question: What brought you to Wake Forest Baptist?
Answer: I came to North Carolina and the Medical Center for my pediatric residency and stayed because I liked the area so much.
Q: What are your clinical specialties?
A: Although I love kids of all ages, I have a special interest in adolescents. They are fascinating and challenging in ways that toddlers are not. I also have a special interest in children with learning disabilities and children from divorced households. (I am currently training to be a Parenting Coordinator.)
Q: What is your patient care philosophy?
A: I am a firm believer in empowering the patient and their parents. My role is to educate, assist and support patients and their parents in choosing what they feel is best for them. I've also found that having my own children has given me a new perspective about parenting and has "softened" me as a physician - life and patients don't always read the textbooks!
Q: What do you enjoy most about working with patients?
A: I consider it a great privilege to love what I do as a career and to be allowed into the lives and hearts of so many of my patients and their families. I have also found that having my own children has given me a new perspective about parenting and be a physician.
Q: What type of volunteer and/or community activities are you involved in?
A: I'm a single mom who has two school age children and many pets at home. I volunteer at my kids' school, the Arts Based Elementary, and am parent representative of both of their classes. I also attend as many of their school functions as I can.
Q: Are there fun facts we should know about you?
A: I was an opera major as an undergraduate, and I do painting, jewelry making and recycled art projects in my "spare" time. Every summer I organize a week-long art camp for my kids and about eight other children. I also participate in "Whimsical Women," a group of female amateur artists that sponsors art shows twice a year.
