Breast Care Center
The goal of the Breast Care Center is to allow comprehensive care for all problems related to the breast in a single location. The Breast Care Clinic is led by surgeons with advanced fellowship training in treating diseases of the breast. For patients with tumors of the breast, a multidisciplinary team is available on-site in a central location thus allowing the patient to be seen by multiple specialists during a single visit. This team includes breast surgeons, radiologists, medical and radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, pathologists, specialty nurses, and genetic counselors.
Our Breast Care Clinic was among the first to be approved by the NAPBC (National Association for Programs in Breast Cancer) in the Nation. The NAPBC designation was awarded in 2009 (the first year available) and is given only to centers delivering true multimodality care. The Breast Care Clinic of the Breast Care Center is also an integral part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Women who are evaluated and treated in the Breast Care Center have the opportunity to participate in state of the art research protocols.
In the Breast Care Clinic, the presence of on-site pathologists frequently allows a diagnosis to be made in minutes. The Outpatient Radiology Department, which is located next to the clinic, offers mammography services for preventative screening and follow-up care after surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy. This allows women to receive their evaluation and treatment without having to leave a single building.
Our Breast Care Surgeons are:
Edward A. Levine, M.D.
Marissa M. Howard-McNatt, M.D.
