This position provides diagnostic consultation and intervention for pediatric patients and their families. Primary areas of service involve patients with pain, chronic illness, medical noncompliance, somatic disorders, trauma, anxiety/depression, and grief. Referrals are initiated by general pediatrics, GI, nephrology, pulmonary, endocrine, orthopedics, plastic surgery, adult trauma, and critical care. In addition, NICU consultations and interventions are provided for parents of critically ill infants. The position involves working with a multidisciplinary team, attending family and team meetings, educating residents concerning behavioral health issues, and collaborating with medical providers for enhancement of patient care.
