Wake Forest University Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking physician candidates to staff the Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) Emergency Department in Hickory, NC. Hickory, NC is a 3-time “All-American” city and also voted most desirable city in NC to live and work by Attache magazine. Enjoy all 4 seasons and take advantage of the close proximity to Lake Norman, downtown Charlotte and the NC mountains. The area has 3 country clubs, a wonderful lake, home of Lenoir Rhyne University, Hickory Crawdads, and the Hickory Classic--a Senior PGA Tour event, excellent public schools, low-cost living, and a thriving medical community. Its central location in the state affords great access to all that North Carolina has to offer.
Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) is a 250 bed regional referral center with Stroke Center designation and 24/7 access to interventional neurologists through the Wake Forest Baptist Health tele-stroke network. There is a full complement of specialty coverage and an active cath lab program.
The CVMC ED sees approximately 50,000 patients per year in 2 treatment areas. The main ED is 20 beds and staffed with 39 hrs of physician coverage and 12 hr of mid-level coverage per day. The urgent care is 7 beds and staffed with 20 hrs of mid-level coverage per day.
All members of the group are employees of Wake Forest Baptist Health and hold a faculty Clinical Affiliate appointment within the WFU School of Medicine. There is no required participation in any academic activities, but there are opportunities for involvement if interested. The group functions as a semi-democratic open book group and makes all the scheduling and staffing decisions locally. Billing, collections and HR functions are handled by Wake Forest. There is an hourly salary plus an RVU-based bonus each quarter. The relationship with WFU provides stability and access to resources not otherwise available to most independent ED groups.
Group members have access to full WFU benefits that include medical, dental, vision, retirement, CME and tuition remission. The malpractice policy is an occurrence policy through WFU.
Candidates must be residency trained and either board certified or eligible to sit for the boards in Emergency Medicine.
