Job Summary: The Database Analyst provides proactive data analysis and support for the department analyzing health care data from conceptualization through presentation of the data. This position proactively assists in the development and implementation of business process and/or technology solutions to improve processes, reduce costs, and enhance customer service. Maintains and manages complex databases. Responsible for the integrity of Network data and provides training on new and upgraded systems.

Education / Experience: Bachelors Degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Information Technology or related field. Two years experience with hands-on data analyst/research experience, preferably in topics related to health care. Undergraduate coursework in statistics, data analysis, and research methods and knowledge of analytical tools (SAS, SQL, Predictive Modeling), data analysis methodology, and presentation software.

Reports To: Manager, Quality & Informatics

Licensure, Certification and / or Registration: Valid NC Driver License; other as appropriate based on education

Essential Functions:

1. Proactively mine data while incorporating modeling techniques and tools for the purposes of informing Network leadership to drive strategic decisions.

2. Support efforts to drive Network improvement such as identifying high-opportunity patients and patterns of care that might be amenable to intervention.

3. Maintain an understanding of the healthcare landscape and the strategic direction of the Network and various department goals to provide data solutions for best practice.

4. Effectively communicate with various individuals to gather and understand the details necessary to successfully complete data reports requests with an ability to produce ad-hoc reports along with appropriate analysis.

5. Produce department specific reports (i.e. management of priority populations by Network care managers).

6. Maintain a detailed working knowledge of various data systems and report availability that can assist Network improvement such as the Informatics Center, NC-Health Information Portal (NC-HIP), Case management Information System (CMIS), etc.

7. Adheres to the general hospital policies and procedures topromote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building, while maintaining professional development through identifying and participating in personal learning needsvia training and in-services.

Demonstrated proficiency using analytic software; specific experience using SAS is preferred

Must be able to manage projects independently and prioritize tasks

Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player

Must be detail oriented with the ability to pay close attention to detail and accuracy of work

Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately for the intended purpose and audience required
