Job Description
The faculty child psychologist will be involved in the clinical, research, and educational missions of the Medical Center. Clinical responsibilities (about 50% effort) will involve evaluating the psychosocial well being of mothers and mother-infant dyads for patients in the neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at Forsyth Medical Center (where Wake Forest faculty are the sole providers of care) and at Brenner Children's Hospital. Teaching responsibilities will include providing instruction on the psychosocial aspects of infant health and development to medical students, residents, and neonatology fellows rotating through the NICUs, as well as NICU nurses and social workers. Research responsibilities will be to collaborate on the design and implementation of observational and interventional studies on the causes and prevention of mental illness in mothers of NICU babies and developmental and behavioral problems in the NICU babies themselves. The short-term goals are to complete 1-2 pilot studies to serve as a foundation for extramural grant applications.
