The Department of Cancer Biology at Wake Forest School of Medicine is expanding and seeking established investigators to fill a cluster of tenure track positions in Cancer Biology. Candidates are expected to have an established independent research program, active funding (especially NCI), and a willingness to engage in cross-disciplinary collaborations and participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students. Successful candidates will also be appointed to the NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University (CCCWFU) where they will have priority access to its many world-class resources and internal funding opportunities. Investigators with interests in genomics, signaling, metabolism, tumor microenvironment, microbiome, therapeutic development, stem cells and animal models of cancer are especially encouraged to apply, but all areas of expertise will be considered. A focus on brain, breast, prostate, GI or hematologic malignancies is also preferred.
The Comprehensive Cancer Center was recently ranked the #1 cancer hospital in NC and #12 in the country by U.S. News and World Report (July 2013). The newly expanded CCCWFU is the region's first dedicated cancer hospital and the largest cancer facility in the state. The Department of Cancer Biology and the Comprehensive Cancer Center form a highly collaborative, research intensive community structured around basic, clinical and translational cancer research. Partnerships with the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM), a world class research program in the development of regenerative and stem cell therapies, the Sticht Center on Aging, the Center for Human Genomics, and other research entities provide a dynamic environment for cutting edge multidisciplinary research.
Winston-Salem is a vibrant community with an exciting cultural environment situated with close proximity to the mountains and the coast. This, coupled with a low cost of living, excellent schools, and abundant recreational opportunities makes Winston-Salem an attractive living choice.
Applicants should submit electronic copies of their curriculum vitae, a brief description of current and future research interests, and contact information for three references.
