The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Wake Forest School of Medicine is seeking a senior radiobiologist/biophysicist appointable at the Professor level to become Head of the Section of Radiation Biology.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific field, a nationally/internationally recognized radiation research program (normal tissue damage preferred), a track record of extramural funding, graduate and resident radiation/cancer biology teaching experience, and the interpersonal skills to assume institutional leadership positions and successfully mentor grad students, postdocs, and junior faculty. Salary/start-up package (negotiable); benefits are governed by institutional policies.
The Section of Radiation Biology currently has an Administrative Assistant, 3 junior faculty, ~3000 ft2 of wet lab space, 600 ft2 for rodent cognitive testing, and 5 offices. Cold room, equipment, dishwashing, and storage facilities (~2000 ft2) are shared with Cancer Biology and the Brain Tumor Center of Excellence. There are several irradiation (orthovoltage, 137Cs irradiator, high and low dose rate 60Co irradiators, and clinical linear accelerators) and imaging (3T MR, 7T MR, CT/PET, micro-ultrasound, IVIS) devices for research. Physics support is provided to fully utilize these devices. Housing and veterinary care for rodents (campus) and nonhuman primates (Primate Center) are available.
The Head of the Section of Radiation Biology will report directly to the Chair of Radiation Oncology and be a member of the Department''s Strategic Planning Committee.
