Living in Winston-Salem
Winston-Salem has been called one of the top 10 most livable cities in the United States by Partners for Livable Communities. The city is nestled in the northwestern region of North Carolina, within easy driving distance to the beautiful mountains and the pristine beaches of North Carolina. Winston-Salem is very close to opportunities for mountaineering, rafting, kayaking, fishing and skiing.
A culturally rich, mid-size city, Winston-Salem is known as the City of the Arts and Innovation. It’s home to the nation’s first Arts Council. A thriving Arts District and new restaurants, bars, galleries and residential developments in Downtown Winston-Salem create a focal point for the area’s cultural and social activities.
Although traditionally associated with the textile, furniture, and tobacco industries, Winston-Salem is transforming itself to be a leader in the nanotech, high-tech and biotech fields. Medical research is a fast-growing local industry, and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is the largest employer in the city.
