Job Summary: To provide exceptional hospitality service to patients and guests in an attentive, friendly and efficient manner. To transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas via wheelchair, stretcher or beds as requested to include transport of patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment. Other responsibilities to include locating, storing, and cleaning of all departmental equipment

Education/Experience: High School diploma or GED. Prior experience in hospital environment, preferably with patient care and transportation preferred.

Reports To: Patient Transportation Supervisor

Licensure, Certification and/or Registration: Basic Cardiac Life Support required within 30 days of hire. Completion of Oxygen Training class with certification for administering Oxygen to our patient population required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Requires good verbal communication skills to interact with patient, guests and clinical staff.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Requires much walking, lifting and physical exertion. Operation of machines and equipment. Ability to lift, push or pull 100-200 pounds. Requires full range of motion.
  • Requires the ability to transport patients to various on-campus locations. Excellent Customer Service Skills
  • Must demonstrate competence in areas of body mechanics to identify and show proficiency in moving a patient without injury to the patient or individual.
  • Must be able to walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to multi-task

Reports To: Patient Transportation Supervisor Licensure, Certification and/or Registration: Basic Cardiac Life Support required within 30 days of hire. Essential Functions: 1. Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas via wheelchair, stretcher or beds. ? Ensuring timely arrival and departure of patients. ? Utilizing proper body mechanics, transferring devices and assistance to reduce stress and strain on patient and self. ? Communicating in a timely manner transport related delays and or cancellations to the receiving department, MCPT dispatcher and originating department. ? Demonstrating correct techniques and correct use of equipment (i.e. lifts, specific adaptive equipment) when lifting and moving patients throughout the Medical Center. ? Following Safe Patient Handling policies and procedures, ensuring the highest levels of patient safety. ? Knowledge of transporting patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment. ? Ensuring accurate identification of patient prior to transporting. ? Ensuring appropriate hand-off communication/s is completed by appropriate personnel in a timely manner. ? Knowledgeable of working mechanisms of specialty beds, all types of stretchers (including remote control) and wheelchairs 2. Maintains a safe environment for patients, self, guests and co-workers. ? Safeguarding the right to privacy of patients and hospital personnel by protecting all confidential information HIPPA. ? Utilize appropriate procedure to identify patients correctly ? Utilizing all equipment safely and effectively adhering to policies/procedures related to equipment usage. ? Responding to emergency situations according to departmental guidelines. ? Maintain Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. ? Knowledgeable regarding Standard Precautions and Infectious agents ? Must demonstrate competence in areas of body mechanics to identify and show proficiency in moving a patient without injury to the patient or individual. 3. Maintains equipment and accessories/supplies to ensure availability, cleanliness and proper utilization. ? Retrieving and returning equipment and supplies to designated locations. ? Disinfecting and cleaning equipment according to guidelines set forth by Infectious Disease Control department. ? Reporting malfunctioning equipment to Engineering and completing documentation for the same in a timely manner. ? Identifying appropriate lifting equipment needed for designated lifts. ? Inspecting and assessing E-Cylinders for adequate amount of oxygen for each transport. ? Able to identify, comprehend and regulate flow meter on E-Cylinder 4. Communicates to the team, co-workers, patients and guests in a positive and professional manner. ? Promoting customer centric culture across all interaction within the Medical Center. ? Utilizing effective communication skills (clear, concise, accurate and timely) ? Addressing conflict with correct personnel ? Utilizing listening skills and demonstrating sensitivity ? Maintaining composure under challenging situations ? Exhibiting positive and professional nonverbal behaviors ( i.e. body language and gestures) when interacting with co-workers, patients and guests ? Identifying and reporting critical patient information. ? Promoting customer satisfaction through responsive, respectful and professional behavior 5. Takes initiative for performance and professional development. ? Serving as a resource for patients and guests. ? Maintaining professional competencies through continuing education. ? Assisting with training new employees. ? Demonstrating ability to accept constructive criticism from peers and management. ? Successfully completing all required annual training courses and competencies. ? Demonstrating flexibility by accepting reassignments and being available for overtime when needed ? Participating in department meetings and in-services. 6. Knowledgeable of all aspects and functionalities of the Transport Tracking System. ? Responding to transport requests in a timely manner ? Following the dispatch logic flow for each unit and service area ? Recognizing delay causing events and entering the associated delay codes ? Recognizing job priorities within the software system and self-dispatching ? Recognize and confirm method of transportation and special needs 7. Provides age/developmentally appropriate assistance in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served. ? Demonstrating knowledge of age/developmental specific data when assisting patients and guests and when performing tasks. ? Utilizing knowledge of age/developmental specific data when assisting patients and guests and when performing procedures, documenting response, and modifying approaches to assisting patients and guests. ? Integrating knowledge of age/developmental specific care needs related to safety issues. ? Utilizing knowledge of age/developmental specific care needs during an emergency response or when utilizing emergency equipment. ? Utilizing communication skills in obtaining information, providing education, and conveying patient needs sensitive to age and development, the aging process, and strategies to meet related needs.
