RMCC-Process Development-WFIRM

Full-time Regular, 40 hours/week

FUNCTION OF JOB

Under general supervision of RMCC supervisor, perform a variety of moderately complex and generally standardized physical, chemical, or biological tests with procedures and techniques previously outlined by established protocols and other scientific data related to the isolation, growth and characterization of cells. Specific duties will include isolation of stem cells from placenta, amniotic fluid, adipose, muscle, and testicular tissue and perform characterization of the cells. It will also require studies with constructs to build tissue and organs. Provide direction and guidance to lower classified personnel, and have direct interaction with senior level researchers.

CHARACTERISTIC WORK

1. Confer with supervisor in the planning, developing, and implementation of clinical/process development projects; develop control procedures for test standardization.
2. Develop experimental techniques for specimen and tissue analyses utilized in complex laboratory procedures.
3. Review scientific journals, abstracts, and other research literature to obtain or verify additional information used in the design and development of original procedures or techniques related to the research/clinical projects.
4. Prepare detailed reports on the results of experiments; discuss with supervisor and other senior personnel the interpretation of the results and collaborate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication or grant submission.
5. Supervise and coordinate the operation, training, and staffing of laboratory activities; maintain facilities and equipment supplies; develop and establish laboratory work procedures, methods, and policies; schedule and determine work priorities; interview lower level technical applicants, recommend employee selection and related personnel actions.
6. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND GIVEN

Oral and/or written instructions are received from supervision. Provide direction and guidance to lower classified personnel.

MINIMUM PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Masters (M.S.) or Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) with a major in the biological and/or physical sciences and four years of related chemical/research experience, whichever applicable for position to be filled.
2. Familiarity with cell culture required and experience with cell processing is preferred.
3. General computer skills, including the use of complex Excel spreadsheets.
4. Skilled in aseptic processing; experience in working with closed culture systems is preferred.

RESEARCH LABORATORY TECHNICIAN IV 4426

FUNCTION OF JOB

Under general supervision plan, develop, modify, and implement previously developed and original experimental procedures in a research laboratory exercising independent judgment based upon specialized theoretical knowledge of the applicable science. Provide direction and guidance to other technicians and personnel in the laboratory.

1. University graduation with a major in the biological and/or physical sciences and four years of related chemical/research experience, whichever applicable for position to be filled.
2. Master's degree in biology or related physical science and two years of laboratory experience.
