The roots of a tooth, which extend below the gum line and anchor a
tooth into the jawbone, have nerves and blood vessels that carry nutrients to
the core (pulp) of the tooth. The roots are covered by cementum, a solid, tough
tissue that helps keep the tooth firmly in its socket.
