Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative
Mission
Innovation and Entrepreneurship is integral to the mission and vision of Wake Forest Baptist Health. An academic medical center that generates and translates knowledge to prevent, diagnose and treat disease in the 21st century must have vigorous and effective programs that deliver the innovations developed by our physicians and scientists to our community and the nation. Not surprisingly, our University motto “Pro Humanitate” embodies the essential purpose of innovation and entrepreneurship as being pursued by this new department.
To support the delivery of innovative therapies and services, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship initiative has been formed to assist faculty in this mission. Some of the specific goals of the initiative include: 1) educate faculty to the opportunities, challenges and techniques in bringing new therapies and services to market; 2) provide a supporting role within the academic environment to support faculty entrepreneurship; 3) Support financially and technically the early development research and ideas that have commercial potential; 4) Provide expert leadership, advice and guidance on the most direct and efficient pathways to commercialization; 5) Investigate and recommend different and novel models of commercialization, including accelerators, asset management companies, closer ties with venture capital firms with national and international scope, etc.
