The Starling Family

Benton Starling
We will always be thankful for the day we met Dr. Yalcinkaya and regained our hope of having a second child.  We had one beautiful healthy son (with a little help from Clomid) and thought a little Clomid and a few months of trying and we would have another child but after many months of trying, I began testing with my OB and was told that I fell into the category of “diminished ovarian reserve” at 34 years old.   Basically my eggs were too old and too scarce!  We were determined to prove the doctors wrong - various fertility medications, injectable medications, 6 rounds of IUI and nothing worked.  Finally, a good friend insisted that we see Dr. Yalcinkaya.  We walked in to our consultation defeated and walked out with hope.   Dr. Yalcinkaya had reviewed our file in depth and impressed us immediately with his intimate knowledge of our situation.  He spent a great deal of time talking with us, answering all of our questions and explaining the procedure and possibilities.  I cannot tell you how excited we were when he looked at me and said I think we have a good chance of getting you pregnant.   And it always made me smile that the inside cover of our file had a picture of our family - I knew from that point on that he was the answer to helping us change that picture from a family of 3 to a family of 4!

A month after first meeting Dr. Yalcinkaya, we began the IVF process and the next thing we knew we were sitting across from Dr. Carillo with pictures of embryos suggesting that we put in 2 and giving us a 70% chance of pregnancy and a 50% chance of twins.  I thought they might have to pick my husband off the floor – in such a short time we had gone from the reality of not having another child to the very real potential of having twins.  Having one child already, we opted to only implant one embryo against their recommendations (scandalous, I know!) and 2 weeks later received the news that we were waiting for – PREGNANT!   Thanks so much Dr Yalcinkaya, Dr. Carillo and Lori...we’ve got my baby on the way and we’ll send you a Christmas card or so we thought.  I had a perfectly normal pregnancy and then at 25 weeks delivered our stillborn son due to an umbilical cord accident.  To say we were devastated, angry, questioning everything would be an understatement but we were not ready to give up on our dream of a another child.  Three months later, we were sitting across from Dr. Yalcinkaya again ready to start over.  Dr. Yalcinkaya and everyone in the office were so compassionate and knew what I needed better than I did at that point.  I cried when Dr. Yalcinkaya told me he would not do a Frozen Embryo Transfer for at least 3 more months – my body needed at least 6 months to heal and recover from the pregnancy and emotionally I needed to heal.  Those were tough words to swallow but in hindsight he was so right so we put the baby dreams on hold for a few months.  Six months after losing our son, we cautiously began the process to implant a frozen embryo (this time they recommended one embryo) and a few weeks later we again got that wonderful call  – PREGNANT!   Obviously it was a stressful pregnancy and I was now in the “high risk” category but the end result was a beautiful, perfect 9 lb, 8 oz baby boy with curls and dimples that melt your heart.

Dr. Yalcinkaya, Dr. Carillo and Lori are all AMAZING at what they do but what is even more amazing is their compassion and their excitement.  They were genuinely as thrilled as we were when we found out we were pregnant.  I will always remember Dr. Yalcinkaya walking in the room to do my ultrasound after receiving the news that we were pregnant again and greeting me not with a handshake but a bear hug.  He helped to make my family complete and for that I will always be grateful.
