Carolina Antimicrobial Stewarship

Welcome to the CASE, Carolinas Antimicrobial Stewardship Effort, Website. CASE is an organization which is comprised of Infectious Disease Health Care Practitioners which include; physicians, pharmacist, microbiologist and nurses. Also, it includes health care facility Infection Control physicians and nurses as well as state and national public health leaders who have a special interest in the proper use and preservation of antimicrobial agents.

CASE began as a “grassroots” organization with a small group of physicians and pharmacist from North and South Carolina in 2000. These practicing health care specialist thought coming together to share their knowledge and their institutions practices with antimicrobial stewardship would help them gain knowledge and strategies, increase their performance and help to improve patient outcomes when being treated for complicated and resistant infections.

Now the CASE organization has grown in numbers and recognition and is reaching out to other southeastern states to join North and South Carolina in this coalition to fight antimicrobial resistance and improper use.
