Clinic Visits

Scheduling Appointments

All Clinic visits are by appointment only. Appointments are scheduled from 7:40 am to 11:00 am all weekdays except Thursdays when appointments are scheduled from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.  Limited appointments are also scheduled Friday afternoons from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm.

In most cases, patients are accepted to the clinic only by referral from a physician or medical professional.  Physician or medical professionals can arrange a clinic appointment by calling 336-716-2700. Patients who are HIV-positive and who are seeking clinic services may be scheduled without a referral in some cases but must contact 336-716-2700 for information and evaluation.

If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please call 336-716-2700 no later than 24 hours prior to your appointment so we may use this time for another patient.

Patients who are insured and those with Medicare/Medicaid coverage are welcome in the clinic as are those who have no insurance or income.  HIV-positive patients without adequate health insurance coverage are eligible for enrollment into the IDSC's Ryan White Program to access outpatient medical services.

Prescription Refills

The clinic maintains an automated prescription refill request line that can be accessed 24 hours a day by calling 336-716-2700.  After-hours refill requests will be reviewed and followed up on the following clinic operations day

After Hours Calls

Calls and Messages
The clinic staffs a nurse line during normal operating hours, 8 am. to 5 pm weekdays (except holidays).  Specially trained, registered nurses evaluate all patient calls and coordinate patient care needs with medical providers and other clinic team members.  Every effort is made to handle and resolve patient calls the same day. Please call 336-716-2700 to access this nurse line.

After Hours Calls

After hours calls go directly to The Medical Center's Health On Call® registered nurses.  Patient needs are evaluated and the on-call physician contacted immediately if warranted.  Non-urgent concerns will be handled the next clinic operations day.

If you have a medical emergency, go directly to the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Emergency Department or your nearest emergency room. Upon your arrival, notify the staff that you are a patient in the Infectious Diseases Specialty Clinic and give your physician’s name.

All outpatient consultations are seen in the 7th floor clinic at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Richard Janeway Clinical Sciences Tower (Clinical Sciences Building) on the Bowman Gray Campus. Click here for maps and directions.
