Active Surveillance Infection Control Course
Infection Control activities at WFBMC are comprehensive and include:
Surveillance for nosocomial infections - Education & orientation of new employees
- Patient education
- Outbreak/problem investigation and intervention
- Hand hygiene
- Oversight of regulatory compliance
- Infection reporting internally and externally
- Environmental assessment
Our ongoing activities include surveillance of:
- ICUs for lower ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP)
- All units for lower primary central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI)
- All units for lower catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)
- All hospital acquired infections involving VRE or MRSA
- Surgical site infections (SSI)
- Clostridium difficile infections (CDI)
- Fungal infections in immunocompromised hosts
- MRSA in all newly admitted patients and high-risk patients using surveillance cultures
- VRE in high-risk patients using surveillance cultures
- Patients requiring isolation and special precautions
- Occupational exposures involving employees
