Active Surveillance      Infection Control Course     

Infection Control activities at WFBMC are comprehensive and include:

  1. infection controlSurveillance for nosocomial infections
  2. Education & orientation of new employees
  3. Patient education
  4. Outbreak/problem investigation and intervention
  5. Hand hygiene
  6. Oversight of regulatory compliance
  7. Infection reporting internally and externally
  8. Environmental assessment

Our ongoing activities include surveillance of: 

  1. ICUs for lower ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP)
  2. All units for lower primary central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI)
  3. All units for lower catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)
  4. All hospital acquired infections involving VRE or MRSA
  5. Surgical site infections (SSI) 
  6. Clostridium difficile infections (CDI)
  7. Fungal infections in immunocompromised hosts
  8. MRSA in all newly admitted patients and high-risk patients using surveillance cultures
  9. VRE in high-risk patients using surveillance cultures
  10. Patients requiring isolation and special precautions
  11. Occupational exposures involving employees
