Lisa M. Wyatt, MS

Lisa M. Wyatt oversees all communications and marketing activities for one of the country’s premier academic medical centers - Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. In her role, she serves on the Medical Center cabinet and is responsible for internal, operational and corporate communications, media relations and crisis management, branding, marketing, advertising, market research, database marketing, all web sites and intranet platforms, digital and social media, community relations, grassroots communications, physician field services, creative and editorial communications, BestHealth retail operations, and sponsorships.

Prior to her current role she served as senior vice president of public affairs and marketing at Washington Hospital Center, the largest hospital in the nation’s capital. She also served concurrently as vice president of marketing for MedStar Health’s Washington Region. MedStar Health is the largest health care organization serving Washington DC and the state of Maryland.

Formerly, she was deputy executive director of the American Nurses Association (ANA) serving as one of the association’s top three executives, originally joining as its director of communications. Prior to that appointment, she served for several years at the American Psychological Association (APA) as director of public affairs, and she headed corporate communications at the American Institutes for Research (AIR), the nation’s largest behavioral and social science think tank headquartered in Georgetown.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Wyatt was a broadcast journalist in Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York and Dallas. She is co-author of a book on crisis communications, Crisis Communications in Healthcare, A Delicate Balance, and is a sought-after lecturer in crisis management, strategic marketing, communications and branding.

She was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Public Relations Society of America National Capital Chapter at age 39. She and the teams she has headed have received nearly 650 awards including many of the nation’s top honors in communications, marketing, advertising, and public affairs.

Ms. Wyatt has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and business administration from Shippensburg University and a master’s of science degree in strategic marketing and business development from the Johns Hopkins University. She is accredited in Public Relations by the Public Relations Society of America (APR).
