Sheila M. Sanders

Sheila M. Sanders serves as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She is responsible for providing leadership in planning and implementing information technology (IT) strategies to support WFBMC’s mission and goals. She also is responsible for the medical center’s clinical information systems, administrative and business systems, academic and research support systems as well as, core IT functions such as, a centralized IT help desk, email, computer desktop support, IT security, and telecommunication systems.

Prior to coming to WFBMC, she served as the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO at the University of Alabama at Birmingham which includes six health related schools and a 900 bed hospital. During her tenure as vice president, Sanders replaced the majority of UAB’s legacy information systems and platforms. She also established a funding plan for IT. She served on the Southeastern University Research Association (SURA) board and IT Committee. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Alabama Super Computer Authority and served as board secretary.

Ms. Sanders is a graduate of Auburn University with a BS degree in Business Administration. She is currently the WFBMC representative for HIMSS, a premier IT resource for healthcare and on the board of directors for NCHICA, the North Carolina Health Care Information and Communications Alliance.
