A Short Tour of Forsyth’s Medical Past

Dr. Robert W. Prichard, a renowned pathologist, loved history so he created this tour of area medical institutions in 1981. As he states in his introduction: This is a tour of about 28 miles, taking about 2 hours, intended for those who know little or nothing about medicine in Forsyth County's past, or even the geography of the county. The tour was generated after Dr. Prichard's writing of "Medicine: Winston-Salem in History" book in 1976, part of a series of historical books about this area.

In 2013, the tour is now 32 years old so street names and buildings have changed or are no longer there. This online exhibit portrays as much as it can Dr. Prichard's original tour. The text, composed by Dr. Prichard, with each location is summarized but the original map is now part of the online exhibit. The numbers on the map correspond with the text about each institution.
