Nursing Publications Submittal Guidelines
Who Is Eligible
If there is more than one WFBH author, only one of the authors needs to submit each publication.
When to Submit Nursing Publications
Submit publication information when the item has been published and the citation information is available. Do not send items that are still "in press".
Where to Send Nursing Publications
Carpenter Library via the electronic Nursing Publications Submittal Form. Fill out the form and click the Submit button. Please keep a copy of the information for your records.
Preparing the Submittal
Fill out online and submit the appropriate Nursing Publication Submittal Form. Please include as much citation data as you can provide and include your name and phone number in the case that we need further information. Please keep a copy for your records. If the item is audiovisual (audiocassettes, VHS, CD, DVD), please see instructions for those items.

How to List Authors
- list authors in order as published
- provide each author’s last name and initials, as published
- if the last name or initials were misspelled in the publication, mark "[sic]" after the misspelled portion
HOW TO SUBMIT BOOKS AND CHAPTERS
What Is Acceptable
Books and chapters written before an individual came to WFBH are included if they are published after the author’s hire date. Books and chapters published after the individual has left WFBH are included if the research/writing was carried on while the individual was at WFBH .
The following items are acceptable:
- chapters or sections in scientific books
- medical pamphlets published by a group or individual
- monographs
- textbooks
- theses/dissertations
What Is Not Acceptable
- condensations of published materials appearing in digest-type publications and not prepared by the author or authors
- items "in press"
- manuscripts
- nonscientific materials
- translations of items previously accepted
HOW TO SUBMIT JOURNAL ITEMS
What Is Acceptable
Papers written before an individual came to WFBH are included if they are published after the author’s hire date. Papers published after the individual has left WFBH are included if the research was carried on while the individual was at WFBH .
The following items are acceptable:
- abstracts covering scientific or medical presentations prepared for scientific or medical societies that have been published, for example in a journal or journal supplement or online abstract publication
- book reviews
- copyrighted audiovisuals, CD-ROMs and DVDs
- editorials with nursing or medical contributions
- letters to the editor or replies to letters to the editor
- monographs
- nursing newsletter articles
- papers presented at meetings
- peer reviewed journal articles
- questions and answers
What Is Not Acceptable
- condensations of published materials appearing in digest-type publications and not prepared by the author or authors
- general editorials
- in house publications, e.g. Infinity, Synapse
- introduction of a speaker
- items "in press"
- Journal Club articles
- letters to the editor not containing original contributions
- local newsletters
- non-nursing materials, such as articles in the Atlantic Monthly or the Wall Street Journal
- references in programs
- translations of articles previously accepted
HOW TO SUBMIT POSTERS, SPEECHES, COURSES, AWARDS,
THESIS, and GRANTS
What Is Acceptable
The following items are acceptable:
- presentations since 2005
- presentations at the Medical Center, Hawthorne Inn or the Graylyn Conference Center if the meeting involved an organization other than, or in addition to, WFBH .
What Is Not Acceptable
- Attendance at a meeting without participation as a speaker, moderator, etc.
- Items before 2005
- WFBH activities--here in the Medical Center and involving only Medical Center personnel
What to Include on the Form
Sender
- sender's name and phone extension, in case we have questions
Presenter
- name(s) of the staff member(s) who gave the presentation or received the award
Speeches, Courses, Posters
- title of each speech/course/poster given/taught
at this meeting by this staff member
(if the staff member moderated or coordinated, taught or conducted a seminar or class, place that info. in brackets after the name of the course or seminar) - organization/meeting to which the speech/course/poster was given, eg;
27th Annual National Association of Orthopaedic Congress
Forsyth Tech Community College students,
Regional Rehab Nurses Conference - location of the meeting
(city and state if US; otherwise city, province [if Canada], and country) - date the speech/course/poster was presented or, if several presentations, dates the meeting was held
Awards, Honors
- award or honor which the staff member received
- organization that presented the award
- meeting at which the award was presented (city and state and date) (if available)
Grants
- title
- principal investigator
- awarding agency
- amount of award
- time frame for the award
Theses
- title
- author
- pages
- program
- advisor
